Bright Little Girl's Room

My client came to me late last year with a request to help her transform her daughter's bare, never-finished nursery into a bright, modern, playful big girl's room for her third birthday present. She had a relatively conservative budget and wanted to repurpose some pieces of furniture that she already owned.

We began with this:

And transformed it into this:

We kept a plain white Ikea desk that she already owned, along with a wooden stool, and an Urban Outfitters plant stand that we repurposed as a bedside table. My client wanted lots of white, light wood tones, and pops of color. Her daughter's only request was to have a pink bed, which I think we managed to pull off without going completely overboard with the pink!

We switched out her old Ikea Hemnes dresser for a white & natural dresser that had cleaner lines and a more minimal look. The original dresser was on the wall adjacent to the bedroom door and felt visually very heavy when looking in. But because the new dresser had more height and less width, it fit perfectly into the corner of her room and made the new layout of the room feel much more open.

In lieu of the old dresser, we put some minimal wall hooks, a wooden dollhouse and some playful prints. The dollhouse originally came with a green chimney, but we sprayed it brass to keep with our color scheme for the room.

We debated between three different rugs that were all beautiful, but each changed the overall personality of the room. Eventually we landed on this modern but playful piece that I believe really makes this room!

Finally we added a couple floating shelves to hold some books, pictures and objects and to complete the wall with her desk and bed. I adore this cute shelfie!

My client and I were both so pleased with how this little bedroom came out, but the true test was seeing her daughter's reaction. She loved all the pink accents and decorations, and nothing could have made me happier than seeing her face light up when she saw her room. Truly the best part of my job!
